LO3: Merit report
In order to follow the codes and conventions of a print product, specifically a poster and leaflet, i started by making sure i had a consistent house style across both of my products. I did this by deciding what colours and fonts i would use so i would be able to use them on both my leaflet and poster. Before i did this, in order to get some ideas, i looked at some examples of other leaflets and posters. This helped me get some ideas for things such as layout and font types. This links to the theory of repetition and difference by steve neale which states that while some elements change, others must remain the same to ensure that it is recognisable whilst also making sure that it isn't predictable to allow it to remain interesting for that audience. This is shown by the fact that most posters and leaflets i looked at carried many similarities such as the use of sans-serif fonts and bright, eye catching colours to draw in the audience but also differences in layout, font size and the specific font used. I took my own photos for my poster and leaflet. Some things i took photos of are the doncaster racecourse, the danum gallery, the cast theatre, the savoy cinema and the doncaster council building. I took these as my project was about doncaster and its culture and these places help to represent that. I chose the angels i dis as i feel like not only do they show off the places well but they also are very pleasing aesthetically for an audience. I edited the photos in a way that made the colours in them brighter. I did this as i believe that it makes them more appealing rather than if they were dull. I chose colours that were bright, those being pink, orange and yellow as they relate to summer which i think makes them not only stand out but also link to the warmest part of the year which for a lot of people means going on holiday and seeing family which means it will link to a positive time for many people. In relation to the brief, the colours i chose are appropriate as they appeal to all genders rather than just targeting one and also appeal to all ages. All of the professional leaflets and posters had a consistent house style meaning they used the same colours and fonts throughout their products making them recognisable and memorable. In order to make my product look professional i would have also created a house style which i would then be able to use consistently throughout my products. I also tried to make my photos look professional by using similar angles and composition to what i had seen in other similar photos i had researched prior to taking the photos. This allowed me to create photos that not only showed the places i would have mentioned in my product but also add to the overall look and help to create a professional looking end product.
